Zika virus infection is typically diagnosed with Blood or Urine tests.
The first ever case of Zika in humans was in 1952, however more recently - May 2016 - 60 countries and territories reported continuing mosquito -borne transmission of which 46 countries are experiencing a first outbreak of Zika virus.
In January 2016 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a travel alert for areas of the world where Zika virus is circulating , this alert recommended that pregnant women avoid travel to certain areas, where Zika virus was on the rise.

The most suitable method for the detection of Zika virus infection depends on the disease stage, early phase – viral RNA can be determined, this is through Blood, up to one week after the onset of any symptoms, or in urine up to two weeks, however if the infection is older than 7 days, Blood testing is recommended.
