Active - B12?

Vitamin B12 is one of the other Vitamins B’s - in the complex of the Vitamin B range.

Vitamin B12 is found in animal products such as red meat, fish, poultry, milk, and eggs. In recent year’s fortified cereals, breads, and other grains are also becoming important in our diets.

B12 is also important for nerve health, having a deficiency, could also result in all different degrees of Neuropathy - nerve damage that can cause tingling and numbness in your Hands and feet.

Our bodies stores years of Vitamin B12 in our Liver, for Vegans who don’t eat meats, eggs or milk, there are widely other forms of B12 in non vegan foods.

B12 is requested when a person may have or to diagnose macrocytic anaemia, it could also be used to help evaluate the nutritional status of a person with signs of significant malnutrition or malabsorption,

B12 Blood Test can also be carrying out, if you are experiencing symptoms such as:-

Dizziness

Weakness

Fatigue

We can offer you directly, the Newer Active -B12 Private Blood Test, of which the NHS do not generally offer patients, or you would need to obtain a private Referral.

The newer Active B12, tests for Holotranscobalamin only, the active form of B12 that can be used by the body, where the inactive form cannot.

Its the levels of active B12 that you would monitor, if you have or having symptoms related to your Thyroid, fatigue or any other symptoms with a B12 deficiency.

With the general B12 Blood Test, this is widely used within the NHS, this test checks total levels of B12, including the inactive form of it.

Active B12 typically makes up 10% - 30% of all the B12 in the body, so if your test, maybe within the "normal" range, when having the general B12 Blood Test, you might actually be B12 deficient, therefore a general B12 could fail to diagnose a deficiency accurately.
